Cranes

Cranes were used during construction to lower heavier equipment and infrastructure into place. If a crane was not able to reach as far as was needed, riggers would set up complicated systems to make, form or repair something with what was conveniently on hand.

The two Sellers cranes that remain in the power station’s main generator hall were used to lower penstocks into place and pull out anything that needed repairs. These cranes measure 31 feet high and operate with 125 Volt direct current power. They have auxiliary five-ton hooks for fast service and light loads. The Sellers cranes have distinctive fixed drums, meaning that only the carriage travels.
