Biography

Carolyn King is the former elected Chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. For over 25 years, Carolyn’s work has focused on cross-cultural training to help Canadians better understand the vastness of Indigenous history and culture. In 2021, she received the prestigious Order of Canada award for her dedication to her community and for her latest Moccasin Identifier Project.

Carolyn King is the former elected Chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. For over 25 years, Carolyn’s work has focused on cross-cultural training to help Canadians better understand the vastness of Indigenous history and culture. Her areas of expertise include community development, public relations, economic development, planning policies and procedures for the environment.

Previously, Carolyn served as Partnership Development Advisor at the Two Rivers Community Development Centre in Ohsweken, Ontario. There, she helped develop the business environment for members of the Six Nations of the Grand River, and the Mississaugas of Credit First Nation communities.

In 2021, Carolyn received the prestigious Order of Canada award for her lifelong dedication to community development, advocacy of Indigenous-led initiatives and her efforts to improve Canadians’ understanding of First Nations. Her latest Moccasin Identifier Project aims to increase public awareness of significant cultural historic sites and the ancestral presence of First Nations, Metis and Indigenous across Canada.
