"Canadian Niagara Power Company" Crest

This crest appeared on the “Canadian Niagara Power Company’s” letterhead and all official documents, including consumer bills. It depicts an Indigenous man in a birch canoe encircled by a pattern of shellfish and arrowheads.

The company crest was designed in 1895 by American artist Frederick MacMonnies. MacMonnies is popularly known for his work on the Columbian Fountain unveiled at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and his design featured on the 1932 Olympic medals.
