More Tesla Patents
Tesla patented over 300 inventions around the world in his lifetime, including 112 in the United States and seven in Canada. His brilliant ideas had no boundaries. Here are more of Tesla’s revolutionary inventions that helped pave the way for modern technology.
Fountain
Patent NO. 1,113,716
October 13, 1914
Tesla wanted to produce a fountain unlike any other, one using large amounts of water instead of small amounts that were artistically arranged to look bigger. This fountain design worked with the same technology used in the power station. A force, in this case a motor, spins a wheel that turns a shaft going up the center of the fountain. The shaft spins an outer sleeve that has propellers bringing the water up and out of the top of the fountain.
Lightning protector
Patent NO. 1,266,175
May 14, 1918
Tesla believed that he could improve the design of the lightning protector, also commonly called a lighting rod, and make it more efficient and dependable in shielding life and property from dangerous lightening bolts. He disagreed with Benjamin Franklin’s original design calling it “radically defective” because of its pointed terminal. With this patent, Tesla introduced a curved terminal with a larger surface area. He claimed that the shape could effectively intercept lightning strikes without causing the surrounding area to become charged, which could attract more lightning, causing danger.
